Promise Development Corporation

Promise Development Corporation has been established since 2000. Within these 20 years of service Promise Development Corporation has organized Affordable Housing, Memphis Strong Families Initiative, and Promise Leasing programs. These programs have been designed to provide affordable housing to low income individuals and families. Affordable Housing serves the community’s low-to-moderate income individuals and families by providing affordable housing options. Promise Leasing promotes life skills by offering parenting & adult, educational classes, training to enter or re-enter the workforce, and how to establish and maintain a household budget. These different training classes are provided by our partners and the dedicated employees of Promise. This project is a part of a nationwide Housing Campaign, whose goal is to identify and house Shelby County’s most vulnerable homeless citizens. Promise Leasing provides supportive housing to chronically homeless individuals. We also provide other services and resources such as: intensive case management, Workforce Development, SOAR benefits, Mental Health Services, Life Skill classes, and Substance Abuse Services. Memphis Strong Families Initiative demonstration aims to end the struggle of homelessness for moderate-to-high risk families. We have 5 sites locally that are a part of the Memphis Strong Families initiative. Memphis Strong Families & Community Alliance for the Homeless partnered with Promise to provide high risk families with housing and other services and resources such as: case management, coordination between Department of Children Service, promotion of child well-being and child development, youth programming and collaboration with the school system.

Promise Development Corporation's vision is to be a catalyst for housing and economic development efforts which will revitalize and empower the Memphis Community and surrounding areas; thereby establishing a beautiful and inviting neighborhood where the quality of life is dramatically improved and community pride is abundant. Nevertheless, this program has been designed to extend our efforts to low income individuals and families. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in the North Memphis Community and surrounding areas through promoting economic development opportunities; creating and preserving affordable housing; and encouraging a greater sense of community life, commitment and involvement.
