Please review our volunteer sign-up for the upcoming performances of the Falling and the Rising at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center, 3800 Central Avenue.
When volunteering at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center, we will provide you with a volunteer badge to designate you as an Opera Memphis volunteer. Please dress neatly and comfortably, no volunteer t-shirts and no formal attire. There is no color requirement for the dress code.
You can watch the performance on the night you are volunteering, and we will be happy to provide up to two complimentary tickets for the performance if you'd like to invite someone to attend with you.
Please remember to consider your own personal schedule when signing up. When volunteers do not attend after signing up, they are sorely missed! We look forward to seeing you and thank you for sharing your time with Opera Memphis.
Co-commissioned by Opera Memphis, Seattle Opera, San Diego Opera, Arizona Opera, TCI, Seagle Music Colony, and the US Army Field Band and Soldier's Chorus, The Falling and the Rising was first produced in 2019. The piece is in English (with English and Spanish subtitles) and could be considered a crossover with musical theatre. It's a succinct 90 minutes long with no intermission.
A soldier, posted in conflict overseas, is wrestling with the sacrifices she has made, having just missed her daughter's 13th birthday. In a quasi-dream state, she encounters other soldiers, all working through their own pain, challenges, and triumphs. With each encounter, she is reminded of the strength and resilience inherent in every soldier, the qualities she will need to rise up again and return to her family.
