We are always in need of people willing to "get their hands dirty" when it comes to growing food and building affordable housing!

At Abundant Earth HQ in Frayser, we need help with any or all of the following:

If you have a group of friends, coworkers or relatives who want to help out, GREAT! Bring your team! Because of the pandemic and inclement weather, we are not keeping regular hours, but will happily schedule a time to meet you at HQ!

Volunteer Tour Guides inspire a love of local history by guiding youth and adult educational tours of Elmwood Cemetery. Elmwood Staff provide the tour script and training. 

Youth tours are scheduled between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm during the school week and last approximately two hours; adult tours are occasionally scheduled for small private groups. Tour Guides sign up for the tours they are available to lead.

Help nurture the spirituality of young people; this is intended for individuals, couples or groups. The Spiritual Life program provides children with an additional outlet for support during their treatment at Youth Villages. The program is sustained by individual and group volunteers from local churches and other faith groups who meet with the children regularly for a wide variety of spiritual and inspirational activities. You can decide how often and when you volunteer to match the needs of your schedule; all spiritual life volunteer activities occur on our Residential Campuses located at: 

Dogwood Residential Campus (2890 Bekemeyer Drive Arlington, TN 38002)

Bartlett Residential Campus (7410 Memphis Arlington Road Memphis, TN 38135) 

To become a Spiritual Life Volunteer, you must: 

Bring your expertise; this is intended for individuals. Whether you are a novice or an expert, we are always looking for new and exciting skills for our children to learn. Volunteers with the following skillsets are encouraged to register: theater and drama; guitar or piano teachers; yoga, or dance instructors; sports athletes or coaches; trained chef; pottery or art instructors; computer science or basic coding knowledge. Based on your schedule and preferences, we will match you with the appropriate children for recurring bi-weekly or monthly volunteer events.

The event can be virtual or in-person. If it is in-person, it will be at the Dogwood Residential Campus (2890 Bekemeyer Drive, Arlington, TN 38002) or Bartlett Residential Campus (7410 Memphis Arlington Road, Memphis, TN 38135). 

To become a Teach a Skill Volunteer, you must: 

Join the team; this is intended for small or large groups. Participate in an array of recreation and art-based activities intended to teach teamwork, trust and social skills. Depending on the season, activities may include: kickball, drumming, dance, pottery, painting, yoga, basketball, flag football, cheer, canoeing and much more! This is perfect if you are looking for a monthly, quarterly or annual team building event.

To become a Therapeutic Arts and Recreation Volunteer, you must: 

The Memphis Crisis Center needs volunteers that are compassionate and reliable to answer our 24/7 crisis hotline. Free training is provided.  Must be 18+ to volunteer.  Morning (7:30AM-1:00PM), Afternoon (1:00PM-5:30PM) , Evening (5:30PM-11:00PM), and Overnight (11:00PM-7:30AM) shifts available.  We ask volunteers to sign up for recurring shifts, a minimum of once every other week.

We NEED VOLUNTEERS.  Most calls are simple emotional support calls.  We train you how to handle more serious calls. 

If you are searching for a way to make a difference in the lives of others, You Belong Here!  Hospice volunteers are a valuable part of our care team.  You can sign up for volunteer assignments based on your interests and preferences.  You will receive volunteer orientation training to help improve the quality of life for others.  Our volunteer opportunities include but aren't limited to providing companionship at a patient's bedside, making phone calls, hosting activities (Bingo, Arts & Crafts or Music Therapy), administrative duties, running errands and attending community events.  Our agency offers veteran-to-veteran opportunities and participates in the national We Honor Veterans program.  Our volunteer coordinator will help you discover the best fit for you.

Volunteer Requirements:  Volunteer Application, Certiphi Background Check, Drug Screen, TB Skin Test and COVID-19 Vaccination.  Our agency covers the cost of background check, drug screen and TB skin test. 

Volunteer Shifts:  9am-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm or 3pm-5pm

Volunteer Service Areas:  Benton County, De Soto County, Marshall County, Tate County and Tunica County.

The Brooks Museum of Art is actively recruiting for our 2023 Docent Cohort; please note that prior experience or art background is not required. 

As a Docent, you'll share your passion of art and knowledge to visitors of the museum. We'll teach you about the museum's extensive collection, art history and touring! Training starts in early September.

Volunteer Monument Cleaners learn how to properly clean historic headstones and help to beautify the cemetery. Staff will train you to safely clean monuments. Once you are trained, you will be invited back to help clean monuments that need cleaning at Elmwood.

The oblong-shaped marble 'flower beds' were installed in the cemetery by the hundreds many years ago. They have remained empty for up to a century, in some cases. 

Gardeners can 'adopt' a cradle to plant and maintain. They provide the materials, plants, soil and time. Gardeners must commit to two to four hours a week keeping their assigned plots planted, watered and weeded. Elmwood provides access to water, garbage bags, mulch and ant killer.

We desperately need volunteers to come by our office at 8000 Centerview Parkway/suite 4-01 to assemble patient admissions packets, anyday (Monday thru Friday), we are flexible on the time.  Please contact our volunteer manager: Ms. Marie Finney, (901)-767-6767, for more details and your availability.

Tutors help Adult Basic Education students prepare for their high school equivalency test in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Writing. Education experience is preferred but not required.

Visit with Adult English as a Second Language students in an informal setting to help them practice their English and learn more about American culture.

Streetdog Foundation does not have a facility, so we depend on volunteers to provide loving foster homes for our dogs while they wait to find the perfect family.  Streetdog provides all of the food, toys, medical care and other needed items. Volunteers provide the love!  We are limited only by the number of fosters available for the dogs we rescue.  Help us save more lives!

There are several options for fostering so that you can choose what best fits your lifestyle. Our Foster and Integration teams are ready to help you find the best fit and to help introduce a foster to any other pets in your household. 

Day Trips: Our dogs in boarding long for companionship, so why not take them to a nearby park for a walk, to a dog-friendly patio for some lunch, or  to meet up with some furry friends?

Weekend/Short Term Foster: When long term fosters go on vacations, or if a dog in boarding just needs a break, weekend fostering lets you spend time with a pup without the long term commitment.

Long Term Foster: Fosters open their homes for dogs until they find the perfect family. This can be several weeks to several months.

The Career Speaker Series is a one-time volunteer commitment where the volunteer guest speaker has the opportunity to engage with students for approximately one hour. The volunteer guest speaker is asked to discuss his or her career with students, how they entered that career, details about the work that is involved and their educational experience. The volunteer guest speaker may bring props, samples of his or her work, or other visuals to help engage students. While this is a low time commitment, it is a high impact volunteer opportunity. 

Volunteers will need to arrive at the school and check in at the main office 15 minutes prior to the start time. We ask that volunteers wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing and interacting with students; organization or company shirts are welcome. 

Suggested age of volunteers is at least 25 years old. Volunteers are required to complete a background check before the day of the event. Following registration, a background screening link and required documents for review and signature will be sent via email. If not completed, the volunteer will be unable to volunteer. If you are bilingual or multilingual, please note the language(s) spoken. 

JA's biggest source of high school programming are semester long business courses that cover our three educational pillars. These courses cover marketing principles, economics, financial capability, financial literacy, entrepreneurial mindset, business communication, and business and technology. These programs are predominantly led by the classroom educator with volunteer guest speaker interaction. The volunteer guest speaker is asked to visit the class five times over the course of the semester to provide their expertise on the course topic by listening to student presentations and giving feedback on the course case study. The estimated total time commitment is 5 hours over the course of the semester. The initial date is a scheduled date, but the remaining four dates are scheduled as per the guest speaker's availability.

The responsibility of an after-school tutor is to help scholars learn by reviewing content with them, explaining how to solve problems, and checking completed work. You may also help scholars develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance and overall confidence.
