Who We Are

The mission of the American Cancer Society is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

What We Do

While most people know us for our research, we do so much more. We work to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. We advocate for lifesaving policy changes. We promote healthy lifestyles to help you prevent cancer. We research cancer and its causes to find more answers and better treatments. We provide information, answers, and support to people in every community who have been touched by cancer. And we do it all 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Various volunteer opportunities

Road to Recovery Driver: The Road to Recovery Volunteer Driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related medical appointments. Drivers donate their time to help people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

ACS CAN Legislative Ambassador: Legislative Ambassadors work with staff and volunteer leaders in their state to establish personal, ongoing relationships with elected officials to advance policy change in the fight against cancer.

ACS CAN Online Action Taker: Dip your toes into advocating for laws that help cancer patients and survivors by taking online actions and contacting your lawmakers about ACS CAN priorities.
