The CBU Center for Community Engagement would like to invite everyone to a free, public event hosted within the CBU University Theater from 7 - 9 PM on Oct. 17th, 2022. Please join us, and our partner, the US Heartland China Association in hosting a showing of the award winning film, and a conversation with the cast. Below is a summary of the film:
FAR EAST DEEP SOUTH is the award-winning 76-minute
documentary about a Chinese-American Christian family whose
search for their roots leads them to Mississippi. On this journey,
they find miraculous family revelations and uncover the racially
complex history of Chinese in the segregated South. The film not
only shows a powerful family testimony, but it explores the
seldom discussed discrimination Asians historically faced and
touches upon the role of the church in helping establish Chinese
mission schools. It also highlights the interconnected relationship
between the Black and Chinese communities in the Jim Crow era
and the generational impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act
