Volunteer Memphis will have a Family Health and Wellness Festival, in partnership with Pink with a Purpose, on Thursday September 1st 10am-2pm at Orange Mound Community Center. This event will have more than 20 local vendors focused on physical, mental, and financial wellness education and resources. Most importantly, we will also have a food distribution, courtesy of MidSouth Foodbank, with hopes of feeding 200 lower-income families in the Orange Mound community. We are in need of volunteers to help distribute food, direct/gather info from individuals in these cars, distribute educational materials, and assist with other small tasks as needed. The food distribution will be the heaviest load. Cars will line up to receive food; the families in these cars will have to fill out a form before they can receive the food; as the car drives through the line, we will place food in car trunks; at the end of this food line, we will give them educational packets on health and wellness. We need volunteers for every step of this process. To alleviate the barrier of transportation, we will also have a smaller area where people can walk up and receive food for their families.
This event will be predominantly outdoors. We will have coverings to help shield from the climate, but all volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather. The entire parking lot at Orange Mound Community Center will be blocked off for this major event. Parking will, however, be available and open right behind the center in the Christ Community lot.
