"Do you love helping young children learn and grow? We do too! Join us at one of our preschools and serve children age’s birth to 5 years old. You can choose to volunteer individually or with your group Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and/or 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Read a book to a classroom, play with building blocks, or just spend one-on-one time with a child that needs extra help with learning their letters, numbers, shapes and colors! We really need your help in making their day special! Volunteers can also help our teachers and admin teams by creating decorations and school bulletin boards each month for seasonal activities. In addition to these activities, we love when volunteers help us keep our schools in tip-top shape with playground cleanup, classroom room organizing and other various tasks. To get started, individual volunteers would complete a quick application and background check; and from there, they will be able to volunteer at any Porter-Leath preschool of their choice."
Porter-Leath's Books from Birth program hosts a series of dances for middle school students called Reindeer Rockout. This cadre of holiday events kicks off each holiday season with a joy-filled opportunity to have fun, while helping raise funds for our Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! We need volunteers to serve as chaperones during these dances that usually occur on Sunday evenings from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, for three consecutive Sundays starting with the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
If you would like to volunteer for this program with Porter Leath, please register within this platform to assure you receive credit for your service hours. After such, then contact Ms. Angela Meekins (ameekins@porterleath.org) or call (901)577-2500 (ext. 1119).
Please note that due to this being an multi-date service opportunity, you will receive the indicated hours for each volunteer experience. However, you will need to contact Justin Brooks, Director of CBU Center for Community Engagement to maintain an accurate record, or feel free to keep a record of your own that can be emailed to Mr. Brooks once the December month has ended. All hours will then be updated within one week to reflect the correct hours within this portal.
