Our friends at Memphis-Shelby County Schools and John P. Freeman Optional School need our help! Below are more details included in a message from Mr. Stephen Porter:
It is my honor and pleasure to reach out to you, individuals who I believe in some way makes a conscientious effort to make the city of Memphis greater every day.
For me, to make a better future for our city is to make a great impact on the current generation that is our future, so I am contacting you in this medium to request volunteers for the John P. Freeman K-8 Optional School's Annual Read Around the Christmas Tree, currently scheduled for December 5th, 2023, from 8:45am-10:30am.
We are in need of 170 volunteers to commit to purchasing books for our kindergarten - 2nd grade students to gift to them for the holiday season, and we’re reaching out to the various business, churches, schools, colleges, and universities in our community to also come out and read to a student or class, would most definitely assist us in showing our students the importance of reading and that as they remain outstanding exceptionally advanced students, they will remember this day with so many people that look like them and that they can identify with. I do understand this might be right before or in the midst of Final Exam period, but we would love your support.
So #Bucs, especially those who reflect the mass population of MSCS students (i.e., Hispanic Students, Black Students, Campus Greek Lettered Organizations, Student Athletes), if available to read that day, please follow the instructions below to volunteer:
